Changes to the Farm Management Deposit Scheme - What you need to know - May 2016

The Australian Parliament has passed legislation boosting the Farm Management Deposit scheme, with the changes to take effect from 1 July 2016. The changes, announced in the Government’s 2015 Agricultural Competitiveness White Paper, recognise the challenges faced by modern farming businesses and give Australian farmers another tool to manage risk and plan for the future.

Agricultural Competitiveness White Paper - July 2015

On 4 July 2015, Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce, launched the Commonwealth’s Agricultural Competitiveness White Paper on a farm near Warrnambool in south-west Victoria. The paper sets out the Federal Government’s “real actions” for Australian agriculture for the next decade. This fact sheet outlines the Paper’s five key priority areas and what the actions would practically mean for farmers.

China Australia FTA - November 2014

The Australian Government has signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with China that will see tariff reductions across the economy for grain, dairy, wine, livestock, seafood and horticultural products.

The deal is significant because China is Australia's single largest food and fibre export market. Also, following the conclusion of FTA's with Korea and Japan earlier this year, Australia has now signed FTA deals with Asia's three largest economies within one year.
